Levon J Polinelli

Writer, Director, Producer

Levon J Polinelli is a writer, director and producer based in Western Australia

I’ve always been making weird things. My first foray was high-school 90-minute action/adventure film THE WHEELCHAIR WARRIORS, followed by children’s TV pilot DREAMSCAPE, produced at nineteen. I directed a trailer for fake Bollywood Kung-Fu movie HINDU JEDI JESUS, which was a finalist in Margaret and David’s At The Movies 25th Anniversary trailer competition, followed by pilot STRIPPERDRIVER, based upon an incredibly random job. I produced nine shows for 2017 FringeWorld, directing five and garnering two Best Comedy nominations. In 2018 I ran an independent venue (hosting forty shows), producing five shows, one nominated for a Golden Gibbo at MICF.

I wrote, directed, and produced WEREWOLF PRIEST! THE LAMENTABLE BALLAD OF FATHER HANK GRIMBY in 2014 to rapturous acclaim – Ben Elton declared it “quite possibly the most fun and entertaining thing I’ve ever seen!” In 2018 I directed and produced THE EDGE as part of the Blue Room Theatre’s Season One; the show had originally been staged in Malaysia and this was it’s first international production.

My feature film EVERYBODY GETS STABBED, was made in 2020. The film is a dark comedy exploring toxic masculinity, following two idiots who begin murdering their friends because they think the world owes them something, when it doesn’t.

I have written upcoming feature films TRIBE, TRAINSURFING, and wrote the story for the animated feature KIBO. WEREWOLF PRIEST! THE LAMENTABLE BALLAD OF FATHER HANK GRIMBY is in active development alongside MEMORIA and EMU WAR: A SUBTLE EXPLORATION OF THE SHEER CAUCASITY OF COLONIALISM as my next feature films as writer/director/producer.

I have also partnered with Tomás Ford on a new streaming platform, Normal Place, which can best be described as “Netflix for weirdos”, which recently played host to six shows in Melbourne Fringe 2020, all live-streamed from Perth in a custom studio space.

I am the man behind Perth comedy sensation Mac the Comedy Computer, and bafflingly, he was a finalist in Mr Boylesque WA 2015. Aside from all this nonsense I enjoy scotch and cigars, I love to cook, and once shadowboxed with Muhammad Ali.
